2 credits While this course begins with the management of the normal and complicated third stage of labor, it focuses on the role of the naturopathic midwife in the care of the new mother. The practical portion of the course covers blood loss assessment and management and placental inspection. The normal puerperium is addressed, as are the development and naturopathic management of physical and emotional postpartum complications. Students develop clinical practice guidelines for common complications. Client education in the areas of infant care, self care, breast feeding and parenting skills is also covered.
