2 credits This course facilitates competency in the advanced management of normal pregnancy and birth and is intended for enrollees in the naturopathic midwifery program. Topics covered include prenatal assessment skills, maternal physiological changes in pregnancy, pelvimetry, charting and prenatal testing. Also covered are advanced normal labor and delivery management, including cardinal movements, monitoring protocols, common complications, hand maneuvers, birth positions, waterbirth and introductory neonatal assessment and management. Students practice conducting prenatal consults, cervical dilation assessment, initial and routine visits, client education and telephone assessment and consultation. Prerequisite: MW7320
