Topics may include modernism; postmodernism; the role of the writer in a changing society; tensions of race, class, and gender; and versions of community in contemporary American culture. Authors may include T. S. Eliot, William Carlos Williams, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Wallace Stevens, Ernest Hemingway, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, William Faulkner, Adrienne Rich, Robert Lowell, Thomas Pynchon, and other contemporary writers.
