Molitor This introductory course provides students with an overview of the general principles of GIS and practical experiences with environmental applications. Specifically, this course seeks to provide students with 1) an overview of the uses of GIS in the environmental arena, 2) a basic understanding of the concepts central to GIS, 3) knowledge of the basics of ArGIS 9.2 through hands-on experience, and 4) practical experience in design and implementation of a simple GIS project. Students are not expected to have prior experience with GIS, however an understanding of basic computer applications is required. One lecture and one three-hour meeting per week.
