This introduction to U.S. politics and policy will center on the November ballot in Walla Walla and the campaigns leading up to Election Day. We will critically engage with media coverage as we investigate policy issues of importance in the campaigns and analyze the role of race, gender, and class in U.S. politics. Emphasis will be placed on developing strong critical writing skills and persuasive oral arguments. For the core assignment, the class will work together to construct and maintain a blog analyzing the federal, state, and local elections using a variety of critical perspectives.
