Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis is on knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Concepts of society, client/ family, health and nursing roles are incorporated. Concurrent clinical enrollment in RNSG 1260 is required. (4 lecture and 3 lab hours per week) Prerequisites: Admission into the ADN Program, BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, ENGL 1301.
