The development of Atlantic civilization through the changes resulting from expansion and conflict with cultures and civilizations native to Asia, Africa and the New World; the development of such institutions as nationalism, democracy, socialism and the conflicts of the twentieth century. The relationship between the industrial revolution and these institutions is studied. Three lecture hours each week.
