Four hours credit. An exploration of common behavior problems of young children in an early childhood setting. Emphasis on positive guidance techniques for effective behavior management. Practical application through direct participation in an early childhood setting. The student will summarize general theories related to child guidance and explain how guidance teaches young children autonomy and self-discipline, while promoting development of positive self-concept and prosocial behaviors. The student will apply appropriate guidance methods for specific situations relating to children's behaviors and demonstrate skills in supporting children to resolve conflicts. Course includes 30 hours of lab experiences. Three lab hours must be conducted weekly for ten assigned weeks. Three lecture hours each week. Lab fee.
