Three hours credit. This course looks at the design considerations for the many machine elements used in mechanisms and machines. Students will learn the applications and selection processes for various mechanical elements/components within basic power transmission units. Students will select power transmission components to meet requirements for specific applications; specify size, load, and operating constraints for various machine elements including bearing/lubrication, belt drives, chain drives, clutches/brakes, and gears/gear drives; and demonstrate an understanding of the synthesis/analysis methodologies of mechanisms and machines.
