Three hours credit. Special skills and techniques in the application of counseling skills for the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) client. Development and utilization of advanced treatment planning and management. Includes review of confidentiality and ethical issues, and use of treatment team approach. Current information on twelve step programming and rehabilitation treatment will be utilized. Students will be able to describe and demonstrate the central concepts of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counseling with individuals, groups and families. Students will be able to discuss issues of confidentiality and ethics as they apply to the AOD client. Students will be able to discuss and demonstrate the relationship between case management and AOD counseling including relapse prevention, self-help recovery programs, stress management, discharge planning, and aftercare. Prerequisite: DAAC 1319. Three lecture hours each week.
