Four hours credit. An advanced study of lathe and milling operations. Emphasis is on advanced cutting operations of the lathe and milling machines, including the use of carbide insert tooling, special tooling, bench assembly, and materials metallurgy. The student will identify and apply special tooling for the lathe and milling machines; interpret advanced operation formulas; list machine and work setup procedures; identify and select proper materials for machining of specific materials; calculate feeds and speeds; calculate machine movements; perform advanced lathe and milling machine setup operations; and perform advanced machining operation to specifications. Prerequisite: Associate of Applied Science in Machine Tool Technology Two lecture and four lab hours each week. Lab fee.
