3 hours Prerequisite: PHYS 2211, MATH 2450, or permission of instructor. Corequisite: PHYS 2212, MATH 2460, or permission of instructor. A survey of modern astronomy and astrophysics for the serious science student. Topics include celestial mechanics, stars and stellar evolution, the Milky Way Galaxy, and extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. Includes three hours of lecture per week and at least one hour of observatory duty as a Telescope Operator.
