General Chemistry I is the first semester of a two-semester course sequence. This twosemester sequence is an introduction to the fundamental principles of chemistry, including a study of the theories of the structure of atoms and molecules and the nature of the chemical bond; the properties of gases, liquids and solids; the rates and energetics of chemical reactions; the properties of solutions; chemical equilibria; electro-chemistry and the chemical behavior of representative elements. Prerequisite: Completion of the mathematics requirement as described above. Corequisite: CHM 101L. A grade of "C-" or higher must be earnedin CHM 101 before taking CHM 102.
