A critical study of black Poetry and Drama in America. The first half of the semester will deal with poetry from the lyric folk expression of The Sorrow Song and The Blues up to and including contemporary poetry. The second half of the semester will deal with black Drama from 1858 up to and including contemporary plans of the Black Revolutionary Theatre. The unique demands of each genre will be examined in terms of the socio-aesthetic needs of the black writer and the black community.
