This course introduces students to the field of digital forensics. It involves the study of the prevention, detection, apprehension, and prosecution of cybersecurity violators and cybercriminals. Students will examine the various categories and manifestations of cybercrime. They will also consider the issues involved in using the computer for illegal or inappropriate activities in a business environment. After gaining an increased understanding of the problems, students will be introduced to some of the "best practice" techniques used by corporate security personnel and lawenforcement officials to discover and investigate possible cybercrime activity. Finally, students will learn about some of the specific technical and legal issues involved in the collection, and preservation of digital evidence so that it can be used in a court of law or to support corporate decisions. Prerequisite: Permission of Program Chair (Lab Fee required)
