3] This integrative course is an inquiry into American society, culture, and thought in the post–World War II era. The topics chosen for investigation represent many of the most significant themes and issues that have been and continue to be influential in shaping the contours of recent American cultural experience. Reading for this course emphasizes the diverse perspectives of major American writers, historians, and social scientists on such topics as the pursuit of the “American Dream,” racial inequality, and theantiwar movement and its aftermath.
