Session Cycle: Spring Yearly Cycle: Annual This laboratory course accompanies the Microbiology lecture course, which examines life at the microscopic level and is designed to provide an understanding of microbiology and its connectedness to the environment, medicine, agriculture, and industry. Topics will include exploration of the world of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, preservation and safety, the role of microbes in biotechnology, industry, and agriculture, antibiotic resistance, viral and bacterial diseases of humans, and the use of microbes or microbial products in bioterrorism. Prerequisite/Corequisite: this course may only be taken concurrently with the lecture course or in a subsequent semester to the lecture course; fulfills the laboratory requirement.
