4 credits. Alternate years ( Spring) This course focuses on definitions of human rights and ways in which women’s experiences of human rights violations are gendered. It examines the roles of custom and law, international human rights, the shortcomings of international human rights structures in protecting women’s rights, and strategies that women have employed to promote their rights, with an emphasis on the UN convention on women’s rights.
