4 credits. Alternate years The major poetic currents of the 20th and 21st centuries in Latin America, and the manner in which they reflect the societies from which they arose. Movements considered include modernismo, criollismo, Afro- Antillean poetry, surrealism, and “anti-poetry.” Poets readinclude Dario, Vallejo, Pales, Matos, Guillen, Neruda, Paz, and Parra. Readings and discussion are in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPA 3015 or equivalent
