Introduction to the posssibilities of creating new meaning in another language. Students are asked to read and discuss theoretical essays on translation, and to produce their own translations of fiction or poetry into English, through stages from literal to finish. The course focuses on what is lost and gained in translation, and on how to recognize and work with cultural and linguistic differences.
