(Also CIN 271) 4 hours; 4 credits Explores the historical trajectory of the representation and selfrepresentation of women in film, with particular attention to the significant developments in the status and achievements of women as stars, screenwriters, directors, consumers, and spectators. Screenings of key films, techniques of critical analysis of the moving image, weekly readings, discussions, and lectures, will all help to shape this consideration of film representations of what gender is, and what it has produced, over a period of more than 100 years.
