4 hours; 4 credits The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the literature and sociocultural context of Spanish America from the “modernismo” period atthe end of the 19th century up to the most recent literary movements in the 21st century. Through the reading of historical accounts, essays, excerpts of novels, short stories, and poetry, as well through the analysis of art, film, and music from the different regions, we will span over a century of Spanish American literature and culture. Prerequisite: SPN 313
