4 hours; 4 credits (This course is not a part of the teacher Education Sequence.) This course examines current trends in providing special education services to individuals (preschool, school-age, adult) with developmental disabilities. The approach of the course will be to follow the process of assessment, instructional planning, instruction, and evaluation of instruction in each of four areas of developmental disabilities: sensory disabilities, physical disabilities, communication disabilities, and behavioral disabilities. While the emphasis of the course will be on understanding instructional techniques, stress will be placed on thorough record keeping to evaluate and validate instructional approaches.
