2 hours; 2 credits This course is for those students who have completed CHN 101 or have been placed into this level by the Department of Modern Languages, and who are interested in continuing their studies of spoken Mandarin Chinese. The course will focus on training the students’ oral communicational skills through selected real-life situations and topics. The course will continue to review the phonetic system of Pinyin, and teach additional conversational skills and sentence patterns. Cantonese or other dialect speakers can also use the course to practice the official Mandarin pronunciation and oral language. After completing this sequence, students may wish to take additional courses that focus on reading and writing. This course does not fulfill the general education requirement. Prerequisite: CHN101 or by permission of the Department of Modern Languages
