Description:
-
This will be a survey of writing by Americans of African descent from the eighteenth century to the present day. As such, this course focuses on what is arguably the most vibrant and urgent strain of American art that has ever been created. In addition to considering the texts aesthetically as written art, we will examine the cultural contexts from which they sprung and the interpretive frameworks we bring to them.
