Occupational Therapy 4 Credits Normal and abnormal physical development is addressed. Etiology, signs, symptoms, management, and occupational therapy concerns of neurological, orthopedic, systemic, traumatic, and developmental disorders are surveyed. Assessment media and approaches in a physical management setting are addressed. Students learn several assessments from different frames of reference. A focus is on the most commonly used clinical assessments, including MMT, FIM, and AMPS. Motor processing and visual perceptual assessments are included. Treatment approaches used in occupational therapy for people with neurological disabilities are surveyed. Bobath, Brunnstrom, Rood, NDT, and PNF are all addressed. Cardiac, head trauma, and spinal cord injury are covered in detail. Pain management, wound care, pressure garments, apraxia, aphasia, low vision, and sexual functioning are covered from the occupational therapy perspective. Treatment approaches used in occupational therapy for people with orthopedic disabilities are addressed. Clinical skills in wheelchair measurement, physical agents, and exercise are covered from the occupational therapist’s perspective.
