ENG 2250 - The Beatles’ Lyrics as Poetry

Institution:
Curry College
Subject:
Description:
This course examines the myriad of poetic styles and the range of poetic expression in the Beatles' lyrics. The genre of poetry will be explored including archetypes, metaphors, rhyme schemes, etc., as well as the political and cultural references in the songs. Students will also analyze the Beatles' music as it became increasingly lyrically complex when the group retired from the stage and moved into the studio; this allowed them to incorporate the music of orchestras and symphonies as well as non-Western instruments (such as the Indian sitar) into their compositions. Prerequisites: ENG 1280/1290 and ENG 1380/1390.
