Study of the development of drama from the age of classical Greek theatre to contemporary theatre, with emphasis on both the literary and theatrical dimensions of dramatic art and on the cultural work that drama performs in various periods of theatre history. Readings from such playwrights as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Shakespeare, Ibsen, Brecht, Beckett, Churchill, Norman, and others. Satisfies the humanities distribution requirement. Three hours a week.
