This course provides students with in depth study of the pathophysiological and pharmacological implications inherent to selected health alterations. The influence of genetics, lifestyle, nutrition, and environment is explored. Legal parameters, ethical implications and professional standards of care for the illness under study are emphasized. The Nursing Process and client teaching are elucidated by the development of intensive cases studies of clients with selected health alterations and through didactic presentation and group discussion. Outcome-based priorities in nursing care are presented. Readings, internet and corequisite laboratory experiences provide students the opportunity to apply principles drawn from pathophysiology and pharmacology in the holistic nursing care of clients. Prerequisite: NUR 101.
