Prerequisite: Junior level standing or consent of the instructor. Current theories of aging are discussed as well as cultural beliefs and traditions for the older adult. Emphasis will be placed on promoting, maintaining and restoring health and independence and the role of the professional nurse in the delivery of care. The needs of older populations who are socially isolated, HIV+, incarcerated, homeless, institutionalized, mentally impaired and/or neglected and abused will be discussed. 3 lecture hours.
