Prerequisite: Junior level standing or consent of the instructor. Course is designed to assist professional nurses in developing interviewing skills, physical assessment techniques and preventative health interventions when working with diverse and vulnerable populations. Therapeutic communication skills in performing a health assessment will be emphasized. The skills to perform a systematic assessment of diverse individuals and the role of the professional nurse in identifying and communicating normal findings and common deviations from normal will be completed. Cultural and socioeconomic aspects of health assessment will be integrated into the course. 2 lecture hours, 3 college laboratory hours.
