The course is designed to provide a fundamental background in ethics and law. An introduction to historical perspective, medicine and law, civil liability, negligence, standards of care, informed consent, documentation, risk management, safety issues, whistle blowing, and education will be presented. Topics include misconduct, malpractice, legal and professional standards, Code of Ethics, Code of Professional Conduct for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, Code of Professional Conduct, and the ASRT scope of practice.
