An overview of addictive disorders. The study involves four different models: the medical/biological, the psychosocial, the sociological and the spiritual. The emphasis is on etiology and a holistic grasp of the phenomenon. Specific topics include psychopharmacology, macro- and micro-neurophysiology, a chemical history of the U.S., prevention and intervention strategies and self-help groups as examples of micro-group interactive therapeutic milieu. Typically offered Fall semester. Three credits.
