An interdisciplinary course designed to provide students with an introductory experience in the fine arts. The course is divided into two components. The first consists of a survey of the evolution of art and music in the context of the historical and cultural background of major periods of western civilization. The second is a study of the principles inherent in both musical composition and the structure and meaning of style and expression in architecture, painting, and sculpture. No prerequisites. Fulfills the Core Curriculum fine arts requirement. Three credits.
