Session Cycle: Fall and Spring Yearly Cycle: Annual The purpose of this course is to introduce students to research methods and concepts used in the field of communication. During the course of the semester students will learn about available resources valuable to researchers in this and other related fields, and students will be introduced to a number of different research techniques (e.g., surveys, experiments, content analyses, etc.). Students will be introduced to some basic statistical techniques used in the analysis of research data, which will help students to better understand the communication literature. This course surveys a variety of theoretical approaches and research methods with particular emphasis on the structure and function of communication in contemporary society.
