3 credits Terms offered: Spring This course will follow developments of Modern Art from the late Nineteenth century to post World War II. The line of great individual artists from Gauguin and Cezanne, Matisse and Picasso to De Kooning and the Abstract Expressionists will be studied through lectures, readings, slides and films. Students will learn to think and write critically about the changing relationships of art to the modern world’s urban culture, its significance and its outcomes. Three class hours a week.
