Analysis of contemporary compositions and their harmonic implications applied to the craft of improvisation. Symmetrical scales, two- and three-tonic systems, and rhythm devices. Repertoire studied will include solos by John Coltrane, Dave Liebman, Ornette Coleman, Steve Grossman, and Herbie Hancock.
