McClellan Required of:MMJ Pedagogy emphasis Electable by:MMJ Only Offered:Spring Description A survey and analysis of literature arranged/composed for various ensemble combinations and sizes throughout various jazz eras (swing, bebop, post-bop, contemporary). The course will synthesize arranging/composing styles with the improvisational techniques that comprise the literature of different periods. Students will demonstrate knowledge of different forms and structures utilized by noted arrangers and composers. Students will develop sufficient repertoire of jazz and standard tunes for performance and teaching at high school/college levels.
