McClellan Required of: MMJ pedagogy emphasis Electable by: MMJ only Offered: Spring Description Techniques of arranging for the rhythm section, small ensembles, and big band. The course will explore analysis and practical application of various arranging techniques including chord-scale voicings, melodic voice-leading, and harmonization of melodies. Students will learn how to arrange for medium and advanced level ensembles. Analysis and application of arranging techniques utilized by noted arrangers from various jazz eras (swing, bebop, post-bop, contemporary). A final arranging project is required for completion of the course.
