Carlin Required of: None Electable by: FILM majors Offered: Spring, Summer, Fall Description This course will address the prevalent and recurrent need in films to emulate a wide variety of stylistic scoring approaches appropriate to the period setting and/or specific ethnic locale of a screenplay. Approaches to research and adaptation of authentic musical styles will be discussed. (Such styles include, for example, seventeenth-century European, African, American in the 1920s, etc.) Careful attention to instrumentation, arranging, orchestration, and dramatic theme development will be stressed. Assignments representing realistic situations will be recorded synchronously to the specific needs of film scenes.
