Exploration of Ireland’s current and past politics and culture. This course will give the student an understanding of how the current setting in Ireland—in terms of politics, economics, and society—grows out of its rich history of domination by and then integration with the external world. We will examine the history and politics of the Republic of Ireland and of Northern Ireland, and explore the causes of the sectarian dispute plaguing the north.
