A study of symmetry and group theory with applications to molecular orbital theory, the analysis of electronic and vibrational spectra, and reaction mechanisms. Organometallic chemistry, catalysis, and bioinorganic chemistry are also discussed. The course also includes a laboratory project on the synthesis of coordination and/or organometallic compleses. Offered Spring Semester, alternate years. Prerequisites: CHE 180, CHE 333. P. Smith.
