A study of the nature and substance of civil liberties in the United States. The philosophy underlying the Bill of Rights will be analyzed and students will discuss the development of each of the great freedoms protected therein, such as free speech, free press, and free religion among others. Particular attention will be given to how the Supreme Court has interpreted and applied the guarantees contained within the Bill of Rights in specifi c instances. PR: POLI 1103.
