Writing Intensive Topics include sets, relations, functions, operations, algebraic systems such as integers, rationals and matrices, isomorphism and examples. Students will examine equivalence classes, groups, subgroups, cyclic groups, basic theorems, Lagrange’s theorem, homomorphism, normal subgroups, quotient group, the isomorphism theorems, rings, integers, matrices, polynomials, integral domains, fi elds and quotient fi eld. The course will also cover ideals, residue class rings, unique factorization domains, Euclidean domains, integers, polynomials over a fi eld, division algorithm, highest common factor and unique factorization in Euclidean domain. PR: MATH 1190 and MATH 2212. Spring Semester Only.
