This course provides an overview of the defi nition, characteristics of, and causes of mental impairments. Content includes historical perspectives on mental impairment, legal issues (eligibility, IEP, program options, and related services), development, curriculum and instructional needs, inclusive settings, and professional collaboration. Students will gain experience in setting appropriate goals and objectives for curriculum and instruction, and to a lesser degree, selecting materials, methods, and strategies for individual learners with mental impairments. Admission to Teacher Education.
