The synthesis, separation, and characterization of both inorganic and organic substances using advanced laboratory techniques such as syringe procedures for working in air-free systems, vacuum distillation and sublimation, use of liquid ammonia, chromatographic techniques of separation, and soxhlet extraction. Hands-on use of Fourier transform infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, and use of circular dichroism and fluorescence spectrometers.
