4 hours; 4 credits This course examines the transformation of China, Japan, and other Southeast Asian countries since World War II, focusing on their historical development and more recent experiences of revolutionary turmoil. It compares the different paths to modernization taken by these countries, differences in their economic and political systems, and the economic, cultural, ideological, and political changes they have undergone in the contemporary period.
