3 class hours, 3 laboratory hours; 4 credits Introduction to clinical chemistry and fundamentals of body fluid and urine analysis. Emphasis on theory and practice of both manual and automated techniques used in clinical chemistry laboratories. Students will learn to operate the autoanalyzer, flame photometer, microgasometer, spectrophotometer, microzone electrophoresis, densitometer, and other instruments. Normal metabolism, abnormal metabolism, and the clinical significance of laboratory tests are discussed. Prerequisites: MDT 100 or CHM 141. Students must receive a grade of C or better in MDT 160 to proceed to MDT 265
