4 hours; 4 credits A study of selected aspects of European civilization in the 20th century. Major themes of the age, which run from the origins of World War I to the Cold War, will be selected for discussion. These will include such topics as the emergence of technocracy and the welfare state, the rise of fascism, the communist revolutions, the impact of modern warfare, European imperialism, irrationalism, and existentialism. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a modern European history course. (cont. wld.) Prerequisites: ENG 151 and COR 100 or any college-level history course
