4 hours; 4 credits Introduction to the social, economic, political, and intellectual history of Greece from ca. 2000 BCE to the Hellenistic world of ca. 250 BCE. Integration of background with various aspects of Greek and Hellenistic culture, for example, philosophy, political thought, and religion. Emphasis on the interpretation of primary and secondary sources in historical study. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a pre-1700 history course.
